How the fuck can the majority of humanity be so damned ignorant about sexual orientation?

It's not a belief. It's not a choice.

It's not detrimental to any of the 1500 species of animals around the world in which it is found. In fact, the only species that has an issue with it is humanity, and that's strictly because of the other thing unique to humans...religion.
