The west has two choices ...surrender to Russia or fight Russia...

Pretty clear which option was chosen.

We're fighting Russia with American dollars instead of American lives.

It will probably stay that way unless the conflict goes nuclear.

Can we get some European money in the pot?

lolomfgkthxbai t1_iyannsz wrote

Working on it:

> European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU is set to provide Ukraine with up to €18 billion in financial assistance throughout 2023 to cover the basic budgetary needs of the war-torn country.

> "It is very important for Ukraine to have a predictable and stable flow of income," von der Leyen said at the end of two-day meeting of EU leaders in Brussels.

18 billion honestly seems low I think we granted like 40 billion not that long ago

It’s difficult to push things through at the EU level, countries like Hungary have veto power. Member states are also giving direct support in form of money and weapons.

Not only that, its actually cheaper than using american lives too. About 200 million dollars per day cheaper

Everyone hates Putin.

No matter who wins or loses, Russia has lost all credibility with the rest of the world.

The only way to fix this would be for the Russians to get rid of Putin.

And they're not gonna do it until things get really uncomfortable for Russians.

Anything that will make Russians more uncomfortable is good.

The challenge is: what (who) comes next? Where does China play into that power vacuum via instruments of national (soft) power?

Imagine being on the repair crew for that power infrastructure.....russia bombed this as a strategic war move to prevent ukraine from being able to function properly this winter...im sure they wont attack it again as you work to repair it.

Im going to assume some of these new air defense systems will be close by, it's a double whammy. Putin gets to watch the power come back on while his missles get shot down.

I highly doubt that Russia is dumb enough to potentially kill nato workers

This year has been a long string of people saying 'i doubt russia is dumb enough' then Russia turns and proves they are, indeed, that dumb...

FluffyProphet t1_iyagebk wrote

Bruh, Russians being dumb as been the one of the major themes of the war.

Generation upon generation of filling your gene pool with alcohol babies will do that to a place though.

r-reading-my-comment t1_iyauz4b wrote

I doubt they're sending any military engineers, and civilians will have voluntarily gone there. This won't be very different from killing foreign fighters... at least to a military that has no problem attacking residential areas.

It would suck, but what would NATO do besides sanctions?

6

AvoidMyRange t1_iya5cpw wrote

You can always bring a Gepard or some other kind of anti air weapon system to the area you want to do repairs in.

You cannot cover everything at all times, but you can certainly cover critical personell when needed.

Lucius-Halthier t1_iy9rdi7 wrote

Real talk though what happens if Russia did strike again and ended up killing those alliance workers? Would that be grounds for war?

3

r-reading-my-comment t1_iyavps1 wrote

Highly doubtful.

They're civilians that will be voluntarily going into an active warzone. I hope they stay safe and productive, but this isn't that different from the Americans, Brits and other NATO veterans that are fighting over there.

shkarada t1_iy9muii wrote

Talking did not work. It's time for an alternative solution.

Ukraine will join NATO in 1 month. You got until then to GTFO. If not we will invoke article 5….

9

Reduntu t1_iybb6uh wrote

I imagine any future "negotiation" will involve ukraine joining nato as part of the settlement. Russia blew its entire load by early April.

> Nato has pledged to give more weapons to Ukraine and help fix critical energy infrastructure badly damaged by massive Russian missile and drone strikes.

> Ukraine has for months been asking Nato for more advanced air defence systems.

> Appearing at a joint news conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Mr Stoltenberg said: "We will stand by Ukraine as long as it takes, we will not back down."We realise that it is extremely important that President Putin is not able to win in Ukraine.

Texas doesn't want the federal government to intervene. They think they can handle it themselves but clearly they can't.

Yeah, it's like the Soviet–Afghan War where the Russians shot themselves in the foot by fighting a completely unnecessary war that they were ill-equipped to fight in.

I love and hate how you are technically correct, but not for the reasons you think.

The Soviet Union tried invading Afghanistan long before the US went in, and got their asses handed to them in humiliating defeat. Now, Russia gets its ass handed to it in Ukraine.
