Modern military strategy: Send tactical strikes and focus on disrupting the enemy for maximal efficiency.
Russian military strategy: Throw people and rockets at the enemy and hope that the enemy forfeits before you run out of things to throw.

At this rate, they're not going to have any citizens left to mobilize in a couple years.

No, it’s just that more people are needed to go on the attack than Ukraine has, according to various estimates, at least 1-1.5 million. But at the same time, only 150-200 thousand can be trained, so mobilization takes place in waves. But the losses are really high

Russia/ Soviet Union lost 11 000 000 soldiers in ww2 so they have plenty of cannonfodder left to throw in. Leaders dont respect life of their own people and won't stop after losing million or two million soldiers.

Look at World War 2 numbers. Their strategy has always been to outlast by sending wave after wave. They lost more than a million men in the battle of Stalingrad alone within a 6 month period.

Russian citizens were motivated to fight in WW2. It was existential.
I get the impression the current demographic really doesn't have much desire to die in Ukraine for an absolutely pointless cause.

True but they're threatening them if they don't. They still seem to be fighting since it's a stalemate at the moment. Ukraine needs longer ranged missiles to keep pushing. Putin's just going to keep targeting energy infrastructure to draw this war out.
