Getty Square isn't pretty, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying and considering this Sub is pretty Anti-Yonkers when it comes to moving it's proof of my statement.
The square itself has a Homeless & EDP (Mentally/Emotionally Disturbed) problem. During the day it's tame but there, at night it's an issue just due to now it's just you and them on the street. I've personally haven't had an issue outside a couple of hustlers that will harass you.
Are you moving with a 1/2 mile of your job? Or it's just near the train-station? 1/2 mile will suck in the winters, but I'd make the choice of not getting a car and seeing if you can do it, and if not then buy the car. Depending on your living situation parking might be an issue.

I have never lived in NY so idk the area well, just that the job I got is in that area. The general feedback I've gotten is that the area is not good when it's dark, which is inconveniently when I'll be going to/from work lol.
So, I'll just keep my car and foot the bill.
I do worry about my wife though. She doesn't drive and will also be working at least part time. Although, if I'm not living in a bad area that might not be a problem

The metro north is in the okay during the day area. After 8pm or so it gets sketchy. Not much to do locally without a car, but if you're working in the city I'm assuming you're playing in the city too. Most people here go to the big box stores and do fun things on the border lines or in the city. Parking is as bad as in Manhattan here as our corrupt city planning board has put up tons of buildings but has not added a single parking lot to accommodate the new people and cars in almost 20 years. Our meter maids are at the point where they are stealthing, walking around in plain clothes to avoid being harassed. they will literally scan your registration as you're pulling away from being double parked for a minute because you ran inside the store to grab something that you ordered online, and send you a ticket by mail.
