I'm (23F) thinking about moving to the area. More precisely in between Yonkers station and Glenwood station, west side of Warburton AVE. My workplace is nearby and I work nightshift. I would also like to know if the area is generally considered safe and is it safe to walk to the train stations at night. Any insight is greatly appreciated!!!

I used to live right next to Glenwood, although I moved away from there in 2007 and can't really comment on how much it has or hasn't changed since then.

Back then, it was not considered an especially unsafe part of Yonkers, and I'd never had issues around there during the day. But it wad pretty unsettling at night. The further south you go on Warburton from Glenwood, the less good it gets.

Personally, I wouldn't go walking around there at night, but I'm also a pretty risk averse person and I'm sure a lot of people do it without any problems. In my time living there, I had seen some crazy things happen. Seen a (seemingly) random guy get pulled out of his car and beaten by 4 guys with bats. Have seen people pull out guns during verbal spats on the sidewalks, though thankfully they were not fired.

In general, Yonkers is very safe as long as you avoid a couple of sketchy neighborhoods. That area of Warburton may still be one of those neighborhoods.

If you go up Warburton towards the Greystone station, it is absolutely safe and I've never really worried about my safety at night getting off the train. So keep in mind that not all of Warburton is bad.

I agree. I lived in Yonkers for over 30 years and it depends where you go. Just keep your head up and pay attention and you’ll be fine. Stay out of certain neighborhoods and you’ll be good.

That's pretty much the hood tbh, if you are driving to work you're fine. However walking home at a late hour down there is not recommended for a young woman.

Lots of change happening in Yonkers for the better! You will be fine in the area if you just be mindful of your surroundings. I grew up in that area and turned out just fine. During the summer months the guys like to gather on Warburton & Glenwood (Team Jadakiss) and another group on Warburton & Gold Street . No one gets out of hand with comments etc. and they are pretty protective of those who live in the immediate area. I’d check for an apartment in a private house north of Trevor Park , you might get a better bang for your buck. And figure out parking as it gets supper tough in the evening to find. Lots of nice places along the Hudson River as well. Best of luck .. DM if you have any additional questions.

You want the east side of Yonkers for safety.

Compared to the rest of the NYC area, I'd say so comparatively. But, that's not saying much considering there's still a concerning amount of crime here, but I'd say overall it's so-so.

If you're a woman walking along at night, I'd say it's not safe. You're always at risk in general walking anywhere at night, but the NYC area does have a reputation for robberies and muggings happening at night.

My wife and I personally never had any trouble with anyone living here other than seeing some people brawl with each other and a few people getting cuffed for what appears to have been nothing too over the top. That's all anecdotal though, so I'd recommend looking at the stats in the area you plan on living in.

The biggest crime here is the average rent that will have people thinking you live in a luxury apartment if you tell them how much you're paying. I paid far less and got far more when I lived in the North Side of downtown Philadelphia.

Yonkers is considered one of the safest cities in America. You shouldn't have to worry about anything! 👍

How exactly are they calculating this?

edit: It's at the bottom, under methodology. Crime is only one of many metrics they used, such as natural disaster risk.

Dude our police don't even show up when you call them. When they show up three or four hours after an event happened they usually take little if any notes at all. They don't bother to report anything because it requires extra paperwork. Our mayor is the son of a former mob boss. Our politicians have rewritten the rule books so that they can now run indefinitely. Our police don't actually live in Yonkers. They use the addresses of their parents or grandparents who still live here. Italians make up 13% of the population but represent over 70% of the police. The politicians have literally bought off every single form of media so that no one can talk about the truth. Every politician that is currently running is in the pockets of the mayor. Yonkers is mostly safe during the day. At night time there are many neighborhoods that you shouldn't be outside in.
