They do this, if you bring in your device for a repair and they find something broken that shouldn’t be they will repair or replace it free. Years ago, I brought in my several-year old phone for a $29 battery replacement, they gave me a entirely new same-model phone because they said they found the battery had swollen.

However since it’s based on the gird, if you have solar on your home like I do, it seems like it would be less useful.
