How is anything Stalin did worse than Mao? The USSR rapidly industrialising is the only reason Eastern Europe currently isn't a mass graveyard.

Reply to Does anyone else listen to music this way? by [deleted]
I used to be like that initially, but I've come to enjoy variety. My problem now is I'll listen to an album once or twice, come back to it a few years later and I can't remember anything about it.

/mu/core and RateYourMusic charts are a really good place to start. Listen to the top 20 albums or so, give them a proper feel, listen to the discographies of the artists with the albums you like from here, and if you want more track down the genre name on RYM and run through the top charts on there. It's how I got pretty heavily into listening into albums. Doing this will take you through a gamut of well-regarded stuff, both experimental and mainstream.

Using last.fm can also be a good way to track down more music as you'll see what music others listen to overlaps with whatever you're listening to currently.
For reference this is my own list of 5 star stuff on RYM

Baseless speculation but if sleep is a time for recuperation, could it just be that complex organisms need downtime to process energy, slow down for a while, etc.?

Sad seeing people who have no empathy, no tact, and better yet, no common sense, because she wasn't one. You just wanted to be a racist prick.

I think there's a fair argument to be made for Browning to have had one of, if not the biggest impacts on humanity in the past century when you consider how influential his designs have been on small arms warfare. Christ, it's surprising that there's still a few of his designs in use somewhere. The 1911, Hi-Power, M2, , M1919, BAR... all in use either actively or fairly recently (I will admit I don't think the latter two have been seriously fielded recently in the past 30 years, but I'm sure there's still poorer countries using them somewhere).

Reply to NIN / Johnny Cash - Hurt by confrita
I'll be honest - while I do get the appeal of Cash's performance, I prefer the sheer desolate, angry sound of NIN. It's very special as a closer to the Downward Spiral, and the other version is just a cover... a very good cover, but a cover nonetheless.
