2 hours should be good. Depending on where you’re driving from, you may want to add some potential traffic time.

Pretty sure the sharks migrate to water that’s near 70f or warmer. So by the time the water is that warm, the seals are long gone north.
I hope….

I was there in October. Cool place with an interesting story.
Preplan any hiking, as the trails aren’t very well marked. Maybe take a picture of the map located at the parking lot.

OP: there’s a great organization https://www.canalsocietynj.org/
They do historical educational canal walks, hold monthly meetings with interesting presentations, maintain a boatload of historical canal information and they also work very hard to keep a museum at Waterloo Village alive.
Consider joining or attending some of these events. All are welcome.

To really answer the $$$ question the OP would need to determine the vehicle costs of the commute.
23 miles X 2 ways X number of days per week X 50 weeks. Then divide the total “work” miles by the mpg that the car gets.
Then add in a few extra oil changes and then about 33% of the cost of a new set of tires per year.
Then you’ll REALLY know if that commute actually makes financial sense.
Lastly, you’d need to factor in the additional 1-1/2 per day you’d be driving.
