There’s a rose anvil video comparing the 2 boots. The construction is indeed better on the solovairs. It doesn’t mean people won’t have issues though.

They are melted on and the welt is fake. it can be done. I’ve definitely seen videos, but from what I’ve read most cobblers won’t do it.

Whenever I look for kitchen utensils now I look up Americas test kitchen, looks for the videos, the publications are paid. It’s also a fun breakdown of how they tested

Btw solovairs we’re the old doc martens before doc martens started outsourcing. They are technically the same boot but higher quality

Sneakers aren’t really built to last a long time. Maybe look into hiking shoes.

I can’t imagine much of what IKEA sells is BIFL. I’ve definitely had some things last but not furniture

If you want to match some red wing shoes, look at North Star leather. The leathers are from same tannery

I love my iron rangers but they have a much smaller lug too.
77tassells t1_j3qz2tl wrote
I would take them to a cobbler and see if you can have them resoled. Screws aren’t an issue for resoling. They may not have a good welt like a doc Martin which can make it harder. They are 100% leather so nice and broken in boots are worth it to resole. If you decide to replace then get something with a Goodyear welt that can be resoled over a lifetime. You might have to pay a little more but think of them as lifetime boots.

Second this. Redwing makes really good boots. Iron rangers or the Moc toes. If you’re on a budget look on Sierra, they often have factory seconds that’s are usually just a little scuffed

Rose anvil is a great channel for deconstructing boots and putting them to the test. This video he does several pairs of duck boots.

Watch the rose anvil video on them though, they don’t hold up to the standard of the bean boots

Llbean bean boots still made in USA still water tight. Can be resoled for around $40 when they wear out. Make sure they are the USA made boots.
