Nissan, not Chrysler, in fact did use a small phono record. It actually sounded pretty good, since it used natural speech. You'd think, ah, the Japanese, surely they had electronic voice synthesizer technology ahead of the US. Nope! Ultra-miniaturized record player.
They did develop a solid state version of their own by '85.

I'm surprised it has LEDs. The indicators that look like red LEDs in my '93 Nissan are all tiny bulbs, even though red LEDs had existed for a while.

There are portable indoor propane and kerosene heaters. Also there are wall mounted ones that vent outside but are basically just a slim box on the wall instead of a whole thing with a mantel and hearth.
And I'm not saying you can't have a whole thing with a mantel and a hearth if you want one, but if you don't want it, you can just have a blank unobtrusive white box on the wall.

Removing stuff like this is way easier than properly installing it.
The only thing I'd farm out for a novice is making sure the gas line is properly disconnected and capped.

There are lots of other ways to do emergency heat that aren't a big decorative permanent fireplace though.
Many high efficiency gas fireplaces have vent fans and need electricity to work also.

Looks like gas and probably just has a small vent pipe, not a flue.

I would start at the junction box for the switch to the kitchen lights then. Look for burnt looking stuff, loose wire nuts.

Your house actually still has fuses, or is this a circuit breaker? Not likely the problem, just thought I'd clarify because breakers can go bad in weird ways. Or, if you do in fact have glass fuses you might have some seriously old and questionable wiring inside the walls.
My thought is the kitchen light junction box has a flaky connection in it or the kitchen light itself is faulty (is it also LED? CFL? flourescent tubes?) and this is affecting everything 'downstream' (the hall light).

Before the advent of machine manufacturing for clothes, they were as valuable as jewelry. When they would write back then about some dandy nobleman having 30 pairs of breeches that was like having a closet full of Gucci, Balenciaga etc.

Probably not much difference at that time. The typical poor scot probably just had bedding, not a bed.
