A lot of typewriter conventions come from typesetting conventions. People used quotation marks instead of italics while using a typewriter precisely because it was commonly done in typesetting too.
Also I think the number of boomers using word processing programs in the 70s and 80s was probably very small. Maybe an actual one can weigh in but my my dad was born in 1947 and we had computers really early, but he still used his typewriter for most writing and we didn’t get a word processing program until the 90s.

Same! I have two elementary school kids. I feel really lucky that they have such great teachers and school staff. And small class sizes, incidentally.

I'm really curious about this. My family is all fully vaxxed and we have occasionally had mild cold-like symptoms and always test negative on the home tests. The symptoms go away in a day or two so it hasn't seemed worth going to the doctor. I really wonder if we have been infected and just don't know it.

Maine Maple Weekend is coming up. I would look on their directory and find places close to you. https://mainemapleproducers.com/events/maine-maple-weekend/#!directory/map
I have bought gallons from Maple Rush because they are close to where I live. Their gallon price is discounted from their smaller bottles.

There is a running group that meets every Saturday morning by the river path. I haven’t gone yet but it looks fun. They post pictures on Facebook and it’s a nice mix of people. https://www.parkrun.us/merrymeeting/

I kept thinking about James Kim, who was stranded with his family and died after he left their car. I was living in Northern California when this happened and it has stuck with me. Never leave the car!

I always say Maine is a small town. LOL
I really wonder how they ended up where they did. The warden said they had been on an ITS trail but the trail made a 90 degree turn and kept going on a logging trail, and they were found on the logging trail. I'm not familiar with that area at all, but I'm guessing it's hard to tell what road is what under the snow?

News Center Maine interviewed the warden who found them. It’s incredible! https://www.newscentermaine.com/article/news/local/topsham-missing-women-maine-warden-service-springfield-lincoln-hancock-county/97-10ea20d4-0ead-41c7-ae4a-3dfbfccbaef8

I’m guessing that they are able to navigate around their home but don’t go out of town regularly. I live in Topsham and get confused whenever I go to the Maine mall! 😅 I imagine that maybe she has had some cognitive decline since she got her license. Being under stress, maybe not eating or being dehydrated, all of that can make someone even more impaired than usual.

I always find Yankee Magazine is a good resource for New England travel. They have a ton of articles about lighthouses, but this one has some details about how to visit and what they offer. https://newengland.com/today/travel/best-new-england-lighthouses/

Stuff usually opens up again after Memorial Day. Yankee and Downeast magazines both have a lot of trip planning resources and ideas. I would start there.

I have gotten a a few cashmere sweaters on ThredUp and Poshmark this winter. They are more expensive than a thrift store but more predictable. My favorite is a tunic from Athleta that was around $26 shipped.
