I think you’re a little misguided. Texture has almost no dependence on plastic material, as far as keycaps go. It’s purely the molds used when the keycaps were made. The roughest keycaps I’ve ever used were abs. The smoothest I’ve ever used were pbt. DSS and CannonCaps respectively. In the photo, you can see my CannonCaps is so soft and smooth that my nail rubbing against it during typing has scratched it up pretty bad. In addition, which texture is more comfortable is also purely preference, so there’s really no objective better or worse. Like everything in this hobby, the best is whatever you like the most.

I have them both, crazy how pinpoint accurate he got with Atlantis and then just completely dropped the ball with explosion. 250$ on that GB, I’ve just reconciled with myself that it’s good enough.

If you’ve never tuned stabs you’ve never used good stabs, you’re in for a world of wonder once you use some proper stabs for the first time

This isn’t Rensuya’s first rodeo with poor color matching, see KAT Explosion.

That link works for tx, here’s a better link for cherry clip ins. TX is SUPER easy to tune. Some lube on the wire and you’re done. Maybe some on the housing if you notice a scratchy sound coming from them, or if you just don’t wanna risk it and deal with disassembling to reach them. Cherry clip ins require the usual balancing, lubing ordeal.

If you’re gonna be replacing stabilizers then just buy TX. Incredibly easy to tune, literally miles ahead of competition. All and I mean All stabilizers can be made to be good, so swapping your bad stock stabilizers for another set bad to mediocre stabilizers is just a waste of 10$. If you really want to change them for whatever reason I’d buy cherry clip ins which are under a dollar a pop

To be clear durock is a pretty old switch designer at this point, having been around for like nearly 4 years at this point. Additionally, giving a read of this article by theremingoat on why sound descriptors such as poppy and thock are really quite bad should prove helpful if you continue to pursue switch reviewing. Otherwise, good review.

The just means the molds used for the abs caps are either newer or just smoother than the pbt ones. The texture right out of the box is not an indication of plastic material. And once both ABS and PBT shine and lose texture (they both do, pbt just takes a little longer) they’ll feel pretty similar. It’s better to say you just like smooth keycaps more than you do rough ones, rather than saying you like abs more than pbt, as it’s not mutually exclusive. If you’d like I can name the usual texture of several keycap manufacturers.
