Are 100% sure this is 1950? I would have said 60's.

Reply to TIL that St. John's University's sports teams formerly being called the Redmen actually referred to the team wearing red uniforms and not Native Americans as often interpreted. Regardless, the mascot name was changed to the Red Storm in the 90s. by J_S_M_K
Here's a good one for you. In 1998, the Alberta government changed the name of one of the Rocky Mountains from "Chinaman's Peak" to "Ha Ling Peak", because it was deemed to be offensive. Ha Ling was a Chinese railway labourer who did two things: he scaled the mountain in 1896 to win a bet, and to honour his fellow Chinese railway workers, he named it Chinaman's Peak.

Same with Norm Macdonald. In his sitcom, they had to change his character's name to Norm, otherwise he missed his cues.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, the main reason the movie industry concentrated in California, is because the early camera needed lots of light exposure, so they built their sets outside, with no roofs, to get use of free sunshine. In Hollywood, they could work all year round.

Yup. I used to be able to rip really thick ones in half. It's all in the technique. Looks impressive as hell though. One thing no one can rip apart though, is two phone books with the pages interleaved. I think myth busters tried that once.

Unfortunately, his brother, the previous king, was a nazi. He had an understanding with Hitler, that he would be placed back on the throne as a puppet ruler, with his American wife as queen, when the Germans conquered Britain. The British government had to exile him to the Bahamas, with a comfy job of course, and keep him under round the clock surveillance.
