I’m no expert, but it’s impossible to say anyone is the absolute best. IMO. I will say that what he does seem to do is make classical music accessible, interesting and popular to an audience that may otherwise ignore it. That’s based on what little I know of him. That’s more of a contribution to music than his actual skills.

The existence of Pearl doesn’t even make sense to me. A backstory for a character that wasn’t interesting enough to give a shit about in the first place.

Jump scares are meant to be used sporadically. Overloading a movie with them is lazy and thoughtless. And you’re right, the story isn’t really original. But using a smile to mask pain is far from a unique or new concept. It’s been used in entertainment since before anyone can remember. You’ve heard of the “Sad Clown” I assume”. That’s been used in some of the oldest movies produced, and on stage before that. If you want a modern day “sad clown”, check out Puddles Pity Party.
