the thing about assetto corsa is that it's unplayable without a wheel/controller, the main way to get mods is content manager. I would recommend downloading the shutoko revival project mod and then playing on their servers
wait for the ultimate edition to go on discount on steam and then buy it, a lot of mods rely on dlcs

assetto corsa (not competizone) with mods is way better than competizone

yeah you could use a controller script and be ok, it's just not as immersive as a wheel
