I've got bad news for you, it was never any different. The documentaries that get famous for being good actually have always been in the minority.

Yes. Go out every day with a handful of food. They will come to you. After a while, they will come to you even if you don't have food.

Yeah, even in space movies and shows with lauded "realism" there is still sound, it's just heavily muted. I like it, but it's still not actually realistic. I like the implication that it's what it would sound like if the camera were encased in a module with air, or if the microphone(s) were mounted in the ship(s) and that's what it would sound like, but it's still not what it would sound like.

Not to mention she's invincible. Two attempts on her life that should have killed her and yet she's still alive.

2022 was actually a pretty good year for me. But yeah, I'm probably in the minority.

And even if you have the resources to do better, there's nothing wrong with being ok with less.

Reply to The vast majority of the 150-400 billion stars in the Milky Way haven't been directly detected. Alpha Centauri is the nearest known star to Sol. What is the probability that there are nearer stars that remain undiscovered? by [deleted]
As others have noted, the reason there are so many undetected stars in the milky way is because they are dim and very far away, so the light barely reaches us, or they're being occluded by clouds of gas and dust. Close-by stars do not have either of these factors. If they're dim, they're still very visible because they are close (Alpha Centauri and Bernard's Star) and there aren't any big clouds of gas and dust nearby that could be occluding close-by stars.

I never said they change from year to year. I think you have me confused with someone else. The only point I was making is that you were being disingenuous when you claimed that Apple have it any better as far as changing connectors are concerned from other devices. Android and Apple phones have changed chargers the same amount of times as each other, and forcing them all to one connector would be good for everyone. And hey, if you think forcing everywhere to use lightning would be preferable to forcing everywhere to use USB-C, that's fine. I disagree, but that's your opinion. It's objective fact that it would be better for consumer if all cell phones used the same power cable. All tablets too.

To be fair, for smart phones, USB has only changed once too. From USB-micro to USB-C. For flip phones it was USB-mini, but that was also before smart phones, before Apple phones at all, were a thing.

That's a strong statement. You're correct that the lightning connectors have been standard for Apple for longer than the USB-C, but they used to be a different connector. And USB-C works for dozens of different styles and brands of electronics. The lightning connector only works for Apple products. That is anti-consumer. Largely Apple's fault, but still anti-consumer.

It will reduce future waste by a huge amount, and the waste you're talking about is also made worse by the differences. I have an Android for my personal phone and an iPhone for my work phone. It requires I have two separate charging cables. If they weren't different, I'd only need one, and I'd need to replace half as many when they inevitably fail.

Reply to How to Live In A World That Makes No F*cking Sense: Nietzsche and the Search for Superhuman Laughter by simsquatched
The world makes perfect sense, and that's the problem. People don't like it when random bullshit can take away everything you've ever loved. It's a hard reality to internalize, especially if it happens to them or someone they know. But this solution, to laugh at the inevitable, is a good one I think. Though, like another chatter mentioned, the idea that all laughter fundamentally stems from an anxiety about death is not a very solid idea. Most laughter, I would argue, stems from the unexpected, whether it's dangerous or not. Though I would agree that the strongest laughter is likely laughing at the face of death. But that's just because it's the strongest of the unexpected.

There are natural nuclear reactors in the world. Pits of natural uranium that get super hot from fission reactions.
