God. To have been a fly on the wall on those art meetings.

"Well now she just looks like Bugs Bunny's little brother. Try again."

"Reduce her bra size a little and change the cheekbones a bit."

"Perfect. I can tell that's a girl bunny but I am no longer sexually aroused by her."

This content lives forever. Kids in the future will need to be able to watch this show to completion while they are still children. If it becomes too adult, you’re basically depriving the whole thing from any future generations who may enjoy it.

Find a different show. I know it’s hard and sad but it’s like a campsite. You gotta leave it nice and tidy for whoever comes after you.

Pretty much before streaming, ALL (American) tv had to fit into some concept of a time slot. This was done for a variety of reasons, most importantly for syndication purposes.

But to get around it, TV shows would do mulitipart episodes. A lot of To Be Continueds.

Twin Peaks was not immune to this. It’s long eps were 90 minutes each which, conveniently, divides up to 45 minutes per half for broadcast purposes.

Anyway, once you open that box, all bets are off. Star Trek DS9 ended its run with a literal 10-parter.

It's not illegal in the "our detectives are working around the clock to follow the paper trail to find out who is in possession of ninja stars" sense.

It's more like "this is one of those crimes the police can use to arrest you when they want to arrest you for SOMETHING but can't quite make what they want to arrest you for stick." Or if they are charging you with something else and want to tack on a few more bonus charges.

Lmao. The Wire, of all things, is not copaganda.

Literally one of the central themes of the show is that the cops sometimes do shady, immoral things and the criminals are still capable of doing things that are good. That at the end of the day these are ALL still just people trapped in their particular modern societal roles.

The pawn is a pawn, the king is the king. The game isn’t checkers.

Best of luck with this post, though.

Best of luck.

I'm not one of those "It's unfilmable!" guys but there's a reason a lot of really great Zelazny has remained unadapted. All of his stuff is like adaptation hard mode. A lot of his big moments or plot twists hinge upon you not really having access to the visuals. It's a lot of prose fuckery.

Especially if they're going the series route, I imagine they're going to be taking a LOT of liberties with the source material.

But... if it works, they're geniuses. If it doesn't work, then it was obviously a terrible idea from the start. All sins are forgiven if it's *good*.

Anyway, I love (the first half) of all the Amber stuff. I'll be rooting for this not to suck. Good luck!

The second season of Twin Peaks is… yeah.

Though the finale is quite special. Try to power through to it. Best of luck making it through the James Out of Town Fieldtrip.

The thing with Twin Peaks is the people who love it recognize some of it is bad. It’s a bit like Doctor Who in that you’ve got moments of brilliance mixed in with some real dreck. But when it’s good… there’s really nothing out there like it before or since.

The other issue you’re likely running into is that if all you got out of s1 is that the storylines are good… you’re likely missing all the stuff Twin Peaks is doing under the hood. There are many hourslong youtube video tongue baths that will make their cases on what Twin Peaks is “really”about. But, personally, I’ve found it hard to ignore that a LOT of the “random” shit in Twin Peaks concerns itself with criticizing modern (well, 90s) television storytelling sacred cows as well as the average television viewer themselves.

Anyway, tl;dr: Twin Peaks is both amazing and awful. It invites and requires flexing some critical thinking meta analysis muscles most prestige TV, even the quality shit we churn today, does not require.
