Wanna hear something even more outrageous? Most of my audio purchases are IEMs.

Mainly because I listen to music all over the house and when I’m outside, so I’d rather spend the big bucks on something I use 80% of my music-listening time.

As for speakers,

  1. I don’t want to annoy my neighbours
  2. I’d have to basically redecorate my whole living room to get good acoustics. Yeah no.

It’s mainly a way to ease my mind , although I wouldn’t necessarily call it escapism or a means to avoid things.

E.g. When I have an anxiety attack, listening to music feels like aspirin kicking in when you have a bad headache. It kinda just entangles my brain. It “just works”, just like aspirin “just works”. I don’t know if that makes sense but that’s the first analogy that came to my mind.

It also isn’t kinda linked to specific styles of music. If I feel like crap for whatever reason, calming ambient music might work as well as technical deathmetal, depending on the day.

one of the first albums I go to when getting new audio gear is "from voodoo to Zen" by Tides from Nebula . It's not perfectly mixed but it has a lot of moving elements and panning stuff going on which is super fun on good headphones.

Also Plini's "Impulsive Voices". Lots of stuff going on. Super dynamic songwriting with tons of little intricacies to discover. one of the best Productions in recent memory, too.

Yeah, the Qudelix is probably one of my favorite pieces of technology I own.

I use it all the time when I'm outside eventhough I own a 400€ DAP. It's just way more convenient. I'd consider myself more of a critical listener and AAC is more than sufficient for me in most use cases.

iPhone only uses AAC which is limited to about 256kbs. So if you really really care about lossless or high quality codecs it’s not worth it.

Practically tho, the difference is pretty negligible in your typical everyday use and the features & usability of the Qudelix far outweigh the ~5 % (arbitrary number) quality loss.

Also worst case you could use one of these usb camera hub thingies to use the Qudelix wired, since it’s pluck & play

Edit: about wired headphones outshining BT headphones: I’d say this is generally true, but there’s a huge difference between actual BT headphones and using a good BT Transmitter on wired ones.
