NYC resident who was just in D.C. for the long weekend. I thought it was awful. Had previously only been for day trips with school.

It's, quite frankly, shocking that it's the seat of our national government.

Violent and property crime there is way higher in DC than NYC.

This article is short sighted.

It assumes people who ride the railroad would want to use the subway instead.

It wrongly states the average time a subway ride from Jamaica to Manhattan would be.

It ignores the fact that people want and deserve a one seat/single fare commute.

It ignores how the subway system would deal with that added ridership.

It ignores thousands of people not having to transfer to the subway, which can be at crush levels of ridership during rush hour.

It ignores the time savings for the people it is intended to serve.

Fries at shake shack in NYC are $3.99, direct from the shake shack app. Not sure what this guy was ordering but he mentions Uber eats, where all the prices are jacked up. The new "hot ones" fries come with cheese and bacon and spicy sauce and those are 7.59, but that's definitely more than a standard order of fries.

Shake shack employees also get a full slate of benefits and paid more than minimum wage, so eating there costs more than say, McDonald's. The food is also higher quality.
