Reply to Is Marilyn Monroe a “role model”? by davesthread
I think Marilyn is more of a fashion/style icon than a role model. I was obsessed with her as a teenager, but it was only about the aesthetic.
I don’t really understand your last sentence at all though, OP. Can you clarify?

Heathers is a black comedy/satire from the late 80s, not all of the humour is acceptable by today’s standards, it made Christian Slater famous and propelled Winona out of child star into more adult roles.
Idk that it’s exactly what you’re looking for though. Winona plays a popular upper middle class girl (not zero by any stretch) who throws off the shackles of popularity and takes up with the new mystery guy at school. They plot revenge on bullies but it gets out of hand.

You nailed it OP. Not much else to be said imo.

Huh. Freeway is very 90s but it never once made me think of Tarantino. Interesting.

Modern dentistry definitely contributes. I mean, people had braces to correct alignment in the 80s but that was about it. You didn’t see the widespread bleaching and veneers that everyone has now.

I saw The Godfather when I was 8 and was totally traumatized by the horse head scene. I was afraid to go to bed for weeks.

Reply to comment by t3rm3y in what horrors have genuinely scared you? by t3rm3y
Well, I can totally see why you would feel that way but IT is actually 80s not 70s, and also was a made for TV movie. It’s pretty cheesy (the remake was better imo).
The Shining had a big budget and a big star and one of the best directors of all time. It’s almost more of an art film than anything.
Try it and see! I think it aged well but I’m old so my perspective is different. Would be interested to hear how it plays to a young person today!
My only advice would be if you do watch it, try to give it your full attention and allow yourself to be immersed.
