This reminds me of a study done on birds that had been observed singing earlier and earlier over time and the conclusion was that they were trying to beat the noise pollution caused by traffic so that their mating calls were more likely to be heard by potential partners.

Reply to comment by Ragidandy in If I had two cups of water, one normal size and one as big as a swimming pool and stirred them both with proportionally sized spoons, would the larger pool of water keep spiraling longer than the smaller? by r3volc
But it would require more energy to achieve the same result. One stir for the pool would equate to many stirs for the cup. The resistance of the larger spoon would be higher. OP's question isn't specific enough to give a proper answer.

So, wholesale slaughter of the inhabitants of the northern shires and the burning of homes, food, crops, tools, livestock so that the survivors would freeze and starve doesn't qualify? You're exceptionally lenient.

Cordyceps Militaris can be grown in labs. It parasitizes ants. You can make an ant powder based substrate. Cordyceps Sinensis is harder due to the silkworms and altitude it's used to iirc. There are a bunch of Cordyceps for all kinds of insects, grasshoppers and crickets would probably be easy too but I don't know the strain name for those.
