That isn't that big an increase. Games have been 50-60 for decades, and expansions were always expensive when they required their own disks and packaging. You did usually get more from them (but not always).

I really dislike the predatory micro transactions, but I still don't think prices have caught up with when I bought Metroid for $30 in 1980's money.

I wouldn't play that game, no. If the base game was balanced well, I might pay for different game modes that could include different death mechanics, but I wouldn't pay to throw off the balance in a game I liked as is. Throw in a few achievements and put it up on steam and I might pay for almost no changes, just to support the dev(s) (I did it for Tales of Maj'Eyal).

EA has been a shit company since well before 2015, and still are. They don't treat their employees well, and they have some pretty shady business practices. They also put out cool games sometimes. Those are unrelated. I never disliked them for the quality of their games.

TIS-100 and Infinifactory (both by Zachtronics) are two of my favorite puzzle games.

Infinifactory looks a lot like Minecraft and has you build factories to automatically build things (as a side note, it isn't copying Minecraft's look, it's the other way around. The same creator's previous game Infiniminer inspired the look of Minecraft).

TIS-100 has you programming a fictional '80s computer in assembly. It's weird as hell, and is one of my favorite games ever.

I doubt games with fighting will be dying off anytime soon (chess is pretty old at this point and going strong), but it is nice to have other options.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a cool one where you work in a shipyard salvaging spaceships.

PC Building Simulator is a fun one where you do tech support on PCs.

If you're a programming nerd (or want to try out that mindset) Zachtronics puzzle games are some of my favorite puzzles ever. My two favorites are Infinifactory and TIS-100.
