The library IS the public space. And the fact that this public space also provides access to a free source of information on just about any topic is great and should be kept that way.
Also, the sale of print books has been steadily on the rise, increasing every year since 2012. Books are not dead.

You can write about whatever you want, but if you call women "females" you're gonna have a hard time convincing me that anything you write is good lol

I'm immediately sceptical because you said "females".
I think you should leave this kind of story to someone who has personally experienced this, and not just profit off the suffering of other women

I don't think that admitting the story was only created after demands from the community had been made is a problem. First of all, community wanted a book and community got a book. I see no problem with that. Secondly, maybe the author already had ideas for where the story might continue, but just wasn't planning on writing it at the time.
I don't know, I feel like you're expecting some sort of purity or sanctity in a story that just isn't there. A lot of authors write to pay their bills. It's their job to create stories and put them to paper and that's what this author did.
I haven't read either book, so I can't speak to the quality of the original or the sequel. Just my two cents about obeying demands from the community

I like the idea of writing a book, but I don't know if I could ever write a book. Well, maybe I could see myself writing non-fiction. Either a textbook for the subject I teach or a collection of essays if I ever do research again

I don't mind when people are talking. That's more of a problem if I'm trying to listen to something while people are talking as I am very bad at filtering out sounds. However, I use a different sense for reading than listening, so reading is no problem.
Also, it helps if I read in German while people around me are chatting in English. It's kind of like an extra cognitive barrier.
