Perpahs children's literature of the 20th century, but the old original fairytales had lots of blood and dark endings. Disney cleaned those up...

Exactly! I have Kindleunlimited now as well, and it really helps with all the books you can borrow for free or read samples of.

I dislike book snobs. Who is to say what is a book that "matters"? The books I read matter to me, and as OP rightly says, one reads books for different reasons at different times.
I read how I want and what I want. Its ludicrous to be judgmental about other people's reading habits.

I am with you on this! Not that I was ever in a reading slump, but downloading Kindle on my phone a few years ago was a game changer for. So many new books to read, at so much cheaper, and all the other benefits of customising setting, etc.
Still love my hard copies, but only now buy second hand or the ones I really love and will read again.

If the money donated is actually used for charitable causes, does it matter?

What? $11 billion personal tax in 2021 not good enough?

That can be a valid concern.
