If swapping tires on the same rims is a hassle, because of run-flat tires, then the obvious answer is to mount snow tires on a second set of rims for winter/mud season.

Also, FWIW, I have a Chrysler Pacifica minivan, but mine is just the standard front-wheel-drive gas-powered version. No hybrid or AWD. And my van doesn't even have a spare tire at all. It has a can of tire puncture sealer and a little air compressor I can use to apply the sealer and re-inflate my tire. So even standard vans don't all have spare tires, even without run-flats.

Took my kids to school this morning and it was 30 degrees at 7am. That's 45 degrees warmer than it was on Friday when I drove to work at the same time (not even counting the wind chill). Kids had no school this past Friday due to wind chills of -40 degrees.

The first place that I ever owned was a duplex, built in 1906, converted to duplex in the 1970s and not much modernized. Suffice it to say that the house needed some work. My family and I lived in the 1000 sq. ft. 2 bedroom apartment downstairs and rented out the 650 sq. ft. apartment upstairs. Talk about having strangers live close by. Especially awkward when your tenant has their girlfriend over and they're banging like rabbits directly over your own bedroom at night. 30 feet of separation between 2 buildings would have seemed like a mile in that situation.

OP crossposts many news stories across a number of VT and New England subs. Most of the time it's just a link to the story, with the implication that redditors in that sub should take it and run with some kind of discussion. OP seems like more of a shit-stirrer. Not that I'm any better with my comments, but I don't crosspost stuff in the hopes of creating controversy or getting votes. And I don't re-post stuff that's already been posted 2 or 3 other times and has already been discussed. Please see my comment linked below about the types of people in VT. I think you'll notice where OP fits.

Regardless of the merits of expanding comuter rail throughout VT, and regardless of the costs of building even a portion of this network, I think such an endeavor will fail by pure virtue of the BANANA NIMBYs across VT that will, no doubt, object to and try to prevent this project in a myriad of ways.

  • Noise concerns
  • Safety concerns
  • Environmental concerns
  • Impacts on local vehicle traffic
  • Taking/buying/using public or private property for creating/enlarging right-of-way
  • Impacts on local wildlife

There would be no end to the opposition. It's the VT way.

Simple answer, don't drink and drive. There is no excuse. Sorry his parents are dead. Don't drink and drive. Sorry he has an ailing wife and needs his vehicle to drive an hour and a half to work. Don't drink and drive. Clearly there's too much at stake for your friend to be this stupid. No sympathy here.

Yeah, no shit.

OP appears to have no idea what they're talking about. If they want to live less than 60 minutes from a large, affordable, family friendly, safe airport then they should not be looking to live in VT. Burlington International Airport is a decent option, but it's not large, and not always affordable.

Montreal is, by far, the closest major airport to any place in the northern half of VT, 2 hours drive or less. Boston is a 2 hour drive from White River Jct or Brattleboro and 3.5 hours from Burlington.

Albany is a 1 hour drive from Bennington, about 2 hours from Rutland or Brattleboro, and 3 hours from Burlington. Though like BTV, I doubt most people would consider Albany to be a large airport.

Over the years we've shopped prices for flights and never has Albany airport come out the winner. We've flown out of BTV, sure, and we've driven to Montreal, Boston, and NYC more than once.

Meticulous about maintaining the appropriate income level...presumably so as to stay below a certain income threshold, so they don't lose any city/state/federal benefits, the loss of which would not be offset by any increased income. In short, to keep from falling off the benefits cliff.
