I think there is a lot of lost opportunity along the promenade/ Kinsley St areas. There are things there now that are ok but just take a look at that Alco building, very uninspiring aside from the neon sign.
All the empty lots along the back of the mall that had some of the nicer spots of the River.
Listen, I can’t say I have the answers for it all but we really could have been inspiring. Take for example the plan to take the 6/10 connector area and essentially bury it to be underground and creat new green space, businesses and housing above. It would have connected the neighborhoods instead of a huge highway cutting it up. I’m sure you can still find the plans somewhere for it. It was pretty cool. Also, about 20 years there was talk of doing something similar between the Atwells Ave and 195 on-ramp on 95. Similar to the federal building in Fall River going over the highway, it would have covered the highway and created all new space to connect downtown with the west end. These are just some examples but there have been other great projects that slipped away

I get what you are saying. Considering the way we rebuilt the river (trudged) and had many many MANY decent developers with “grandiose” ideas that got shot down due to inside deals and moving towards the practical. Practical isn’t bad. It’s not what Providence was about for quite some time. I was never a fan of Buddy because in my 42 years it’s been easy to sift away the BS. It was almost too obvious. This city was calling its self the renaissance city. Now a days? We kept too much of the practical.

Can’t say I hang with people from HS still, I work a fulfilling job that helps provide for the city I grew up in and I interact with many communities. I appreciate some aspects of what transplants do for the city but I’ve also been witness to how it’s ruined aspects and hindered better development and pander to the universities.
I don’t care if someone tells someone about the Starbucks in wayland sq. Y’all aren’t really grasping it. There are parts of RI , not commerce related, that have been ruined. Areas that get overcrowded and treated like shit because people don’t have respect for their new communities. A good example is Camp Cronin. Camp Cronin was a “Secret spot” for people in RI who were sick of the overcrowding of our state beaches. Then, the gentrification boom of 10-15 years ago caused some people (someone I actually went to high school with) to write a trendy article in the hip local alternative newspaper. Great spot is now treated like the piss ditch at burning man. I’m sure you don’t want to hear about the environmental impact it causes, right? I must be an idiot for not pandering to people who move to a new town and treat it badly.

PASTICHE. If you want top tier dessert go there for one of the two or three chocolate cakes they have or any other thing because it’s all great. Highlights for me are the Lemon Cake, Pecan Pie and the Banana Cream Pie ( get caramel on it).

EDIT: Greggs is fine but it’s your girls b day. Don’t take them all to the place with the livet and onions early bird special. The cake is good and all, yes.
Pastiche is on the federal hill and it’s way more of a romantic place.

WOW. I didn’t know there were so many landlord bootlickers in this sub!
Ps my advice is nitpick the lease and handbook to catch him on a technicality with the property. Any small break of lease should suffice.

Have you not lived here long? Because if you think “a little red” wouldn’t be bad for this state then you don’t remember the years under Lincoln Almond and Don Carcieri. Also, why does Kalus being well read make her a viable candidate for governor? Reading comprehension should be a prerequisite, no? Wait, did the candidates put out summer reading lists? Oh wait! Kalus is part of the party that likes to BAN BOOKS. She is within the party that thought that it was pornography to have naked mice in the book MAUS. (It’s about the Holocaust if you don’t know it and wondering if there was an underlying reason why they want to ban it).
