I haven’t done it in many years, but back when I lived near Eastern Market I would watch the first half of the speech on TV and then walk over to the Capitol during the second half. All the Senators and Reps have to crowd into the chamber and none of them can bring their briefcases and purses and stuff so they have to hoof it across the street to their offices when they leave. I would annually alternate between the House or Senate side, but typically I enjoyed the House side better (more people to see and/or belittle if that’s your thing). Also fun to play “guess whose motorcade” based on how many black SUVs and police vehicles.
