The trick is not cutting all the way through, and then scooping out from the inside until you can see the light through. This was my first time trying this technique and I think it turned out pretty good.

Thanks, I was a little intimidated trying partial cuts like this for the first time, but I'm happy with the result. Scooping out the back was the most stressful thing I've done in a while.
