Maybe having kids is a bad idea? Considering the quality of life they're going to (not) have, maybe we have enough people.

I saw highest property tax rates on here, if that's what you are referring to. I'm sure if you have enough money, quality of life in Burlington and SB is high, for now.

We don't like the remote workers, no. Who likes the people who come to gentrify their home?

I certainly can. What I don't understand is lecturing other people about their dog, especially when doing so is at least a little hypocritical. The basic argument is you shouldn't buy a dog when many already need homes. Lots of kids need homes, and people who adopt kids generally don't lecture others about it. Very long winded way of saying I find the "adopt don't shop" people annoying and I don't have pets.

You're gonna hear it from the "adopt, don't shop" crowd. My response is always to ask if they had their own children. When they answer yes, I ask why it's more important to adopt animals than people. Have yet to hear a logical answer. Best is "I can't make a dog." Well, have you tried?

Then the bar must be really, really high. It's much higher than it is in neighboring states.

Woodstock isn't really "Vermont". It's "Vermont" in the sense that a resort in Cancun is "Mexico." Same with Stowe, Manchester, etc.

You expected people in New England to be fake-friendly like people in the south? Whoops! Yes, costs are rising everywhere. Ours went up like crazy during COVID, and the only logical explanation is a shit load of people moving here to work from home. Sorry we aren't thrilled about it. And there are a lot of fake people and virtue signaling types here but lots of them just got here too.

Vermont is theoretically perfect. A Vermont with a healthy housing market would be perfect. Current VT is not a good place to move to, financially, for most people.

The problem is there is no mental health system whatsoever at the state level and no ability to take people who are a danger to themselves or others off the street. If everything is strictly voluntary we end up with nothing.

We don't really have gayborhoods here, no town or city is big enough for that.
TL;DR: there is literally no available housing here unless you have a shit ton of cash and even then it's iffy. Renting... Forget it.
