There's probably too few people in it to enforce groupthink... personally I just flipped eventually.

It's general-purpose computing, so it will be used for surveillance and porn, as always.
But yeah, it does sound like singularity level stuff...

I read "The singularity is near" some time in the 2000s. I rarely participate in this sub because I find it overly optimistic. I think if the current development continues a technological singularity is likely to occur before 2040. But things may get very ugly in lots of ways well before then. A number of catastrophes are likely to happen before it, and the singularity itself could turn out of be a very bad thing for most of us.
To be honest, looking at a bunch of bad endings, a singularity one at least seems like the most interesting...

Reply to NVIDIA just released a new Eye Contact feature that uses AI to make you look into the camera by strangesmagic
I tried it... with me it looks like I'm staring above the camera, and it turns out constantly staring at the same point is pretty creepy. Normal people look away sometimes, let their eyes wander, and when there's a group discussion they mostly look at the speaker, not at YOU all the time. When you move your head or eyes far enough the effect stops, and the resumes when it makes out your eyes again - which can look unnatural. And if you wink or slowly slide something in front of one eye it looks really freaky (you can see a bit of that in the video).
I wouldn't use it in any serious context. It's only for spooking my friends and family.
