The word is most of the time heavily misused

Pretentious - attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed

People basically just say this word to sound smart rather than say, "This movie sucks!", "Affecting greater importance than is actually possessed" is usually a matter of opinion.

It's a song so catchy! most people probably don't listen to the lyrics, But they should! because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
