AMC was crazy to think a Walking Dead movie would make big money at the box office, let alone an entire trilogy. The fact that they’re now turning the movies into a miniseries seems like a downgrade if you ask me. This entire expanded universe is so baffling to me. It feels like AMC and Scott Gimple wasted so much time doing nothing with this universe. The main show is done, and the other spin-offs have had poor ratings and mixed reviews. Now all of a sudden they’re greenlighting spin-off after spin-off, yet the franchise is well past the height of its pop culture relevance. I feel like they’re 7 years too late at this point. Talk about striking while the iron is lukewarm.

I don’t care about camera upgrades all that much. I just want a Mini with a ProMotion display—that would probably help with battery life, too. Even budget Android phones have high refresh rate screens. It’s ridiculous that base model iPhones don’t have this feature, when it’s become pretty standard across the industry at this point.

I actually quite enjoyed this show. It’s rare to have a show centered entirely around Christmas. There’s tons of Christmas themed episodes of shows, or one off specials, but we don’t often get entire seasons of shows focused around this holiday. It was a nice little treat coming back each week for Hawkeye’s continued Christmas misadventures, and there was a sort of charm to how low stakes the story was.
The writing, especially for the villains, wasn’t necessarily the best, and I had some issues with the finale, but the atmosphere and setting really went a long way for my enjoyment of the show. Also, the soundtrack was really good, and Hailee Steinfeld is a great addition to the MCU. Hawkeye isn’t my favorite Marvel show, but I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as some people make it out to be.

I just hate how they removed volume controls with this update. It makes changing the volume slightly less convenient at times, and I don’t see why they felt the need to remove it.

Based off the trailers I knew this show wouldn’t last long, so I never bothered to watch it. I’m just curious, was there any big twist at the end of the season? I always wondered how this show could have kept its story interesting for multiple seasons. Unless there was some sort of multiversal twist or something similar, the idea of a show with three separate storylines that never interact with each other just seemed odd to me. Like, what was the ultimate goal for this show? Would it really just be three separate storylines for its entire run? I don’t see how the novelty of this show’s premise could be very sustainable.

I’m actually glad HotD used black actors for key roles. Keeping track of all the characters and their names is already confusing to begin with. Having them all be played by white actors with silver hair would have made things even more confusing. Also, I’m all for more diversity in fantasy entertainment, which has long been dominated by white people.

Ok, this instills a little more confidence in me about this spin-off. At least this show will have solid writing. Can’t say the same about the rest of the spin-offs.

Ehh, Rick was kidnapped in season 9. I feel like the peak of the show (in terms of quality and viewership) and the fandom (in terms of the show consistently being in the pop culture conversation) was around season 6. Things started to peter off after that, especially because the quality of the show took a massive dip with seasons 7 and 8.
The show was still popular during season 9, but the numbers weren’t nearly as high as the show at its peak. And general perception of the show was already tainted from the previous two seasons, even if season 9 (debatably) rebounded in terms of quality. So any talk of making a movie around this time was already way too late in my opinion.
This show probably won’t even air until next year, so the fact that there‘ll be 6 years in between when the spin-off movies were first announced, to when we’ll finally see Rick again, probably doesn’t help either. This is well, well, well beyond the point where the story could have made the biggest impact. And I feel the same about all the other spin-offs. Why did they wait until now to legitimately start expanding this universe? It just boggles my mind.
