Love that place, and if you dig spice you have to try the Asun.

I am really partial to the mushroom paprikas, it's so savory. Craving it now lol.

Obv as a paleteria they have a shit ton of desserts and they do that well.
I would say they do the best Elotes in Beechview and the best tripa taco. Their specials can be incredible. If the mom/cook is making Chiles Rellenos get your ass up there lol.

Alquisiras Paleterias doesn't have nearly as full of a menu but it's still quite good imo.

Was bout to post this.
I know it sounds absurd but the gorditas there are so good I literally can't enjoy them from anywhere else anymore. Everything I have had is great, but the pambazo is another standout.

The topography.
Secret routes that beat rush hour traffic.
The two weeks in October with clear skies and no humidity that the city looks its best.
Low cost of living.
Food scene that bats way above population size.
Absolutely absurd interactions with strangers. Chronic oversharing. Extreme and weird generosity and crankiness. Personalities and stories that seem fictional but aren't. There's some magical realism in the blood of this place.
Cons: I have heard from many transplants that the town feels insular and they have a hard time breaking in socially. I am friends with more than a few transplants and I feel like as long as you make friends normally at work and/or do an activity (climbing, etc.) and/or get involved in something (a church, the elks, whatever) it's not a problem. That said, I have heard it.

Yue Bai Wei is pricy but the portions are huge and great for sharing, great for Christmas dine in. Not even sure they have any Americanized Chinese offerings if that is what OP is looking for.
