I really liked the balance of what he brought to the table for a more mature feeling to their albums. I still don’t like how they just cast him aside for what seems like a failed attempt at capturing the old magic.

I would have loved to see that as well, but if you think about it, it would have made the start and shift of this season a lot more predictable. I’m ok for where they started the show in the timeline.
