Makes sense to me. I've known for a long time language was power. You can bind concepts to words so that just thinking the word lets you experience what that word means. If you are an expert at some subject, you can only really think about that subject my knowing all the jargon because it allows you to compare complex thoughts side by side by merely invoking two words. Eventually you can create a more complex experience that can be binded into a new word. That word will hold the power of those two other words, and on and on.
Your reality is literally shaped by the words you know. Your perspective is only as good as your words.

If you're not wealthy and don't really have anything going on, the prospect of a total AI takeover of humanity sounds entertaining, not scary. Regardless of the path it takes, I'm going to be enjoying the show.

The great equalizer. Once everyone is out of work, but still needs to live, what is the point of money? Clearly the AI is going to create so much profit for humanity that they will have no choice but to share or suffer a tidal wave of humanity crashing down on them. There will be no where to flee because it will be total chaos if they don't manage it right.
There's a very real risk that they're going to lose their power.

Honestly, I have no idea if you can hide the training. A few million people divided up amongst all their training places might not even be noticeable. Again, no idea on the kit.
One things for sure, they know what they're dealing with and there won't be surprises like last time. If they truly do have a secret army they're training, this could go pretty badly.

Russian population is 140M+, and supposedly the male population is ~60m.
If they've been training people ever since their major blunder, and are able to keep it under wraps, that army.
It looks like this:
- Shore up the line with prisoners and other "undesirables".
- Start training new men.
- Send them in.
Still, do they have the equipment? Sending meat waves - even if they're trained - isn't doing shit if they don't have the kit.
Don't make the mistake of thinking this is over. Far from it, as long as Putin in safe.

It's really a matter of if we actually hit the singularity. If we do, innovation in robotics will likely be one of the first directions the ASI will take, since it will want a corporeal form.
