For those wondering, this is Picture Lake with Mt Shuksan in the North Cascades National Park. I took a similar pic one sunrise 4 years ago. The North Cascades are beautiful, I highly recommend hiking there!

Reply to CEO pay has skyrocketed 1,460% since 1978: CEOs were paid 399 times as much as a typical worker in 2021 by sillychillly
I think a big part of this is a larger percent of companies have a global customer base. Software companies especially can scale near infinitely with the same number of workers/developers. Due to this the value of the company (which CEO compensation is typically tied to) goes up much higher than if the company was only available in a single country.

Steve King was stripped of his committee seats and then primaried by a Republican challenger and voted out by the Republican voters in his state. That's the first one that came to mind when you asked for a similar situation, but it was for saying wrong things, not for committing actual crimes.

Reply to Android phones offered early US quake warning, beating iPhones to the punch | Google's earthquake detection network turns Android phones into seismometers, and it paid off yesterday. by chrisdh79
I live ~9 miles from yesterdays epicenter. I got the warning on the phone about the same time as my dogs came running into my office. Then a few seconds later felt the ground bounce up and down and the house creaked a bit for a couple seconds. Even as close as I was it was still pretty minor, but I can imagine it would be helpful if it was a larger earthquake.

Downed trees are incredibly heavy/massive and yet still float in water. If one is in the water near you get away from it because if the waves push it towards the shore it could trap and crush anyone who gets under it.
