Well the person above said the wave is resisted by the medium, and the wave moves the medium (the ping pong balls) as it passes. That sounds like work in the analogy used at least.
And could a photon not shift to a lower energy wavelength? Different photons have different energy I thought?

Can you expand or provide evidence for this? It seems counterintuitive, implying less sophisticated thought, though people were just as intelligent

You can see well enough to walk around by starlight on earth. It has been a long time since I was that far out, with only a small town 50 miles away, and no cities for hundreds of miles. but I remember being able to read very large text by moonlight , and to walk by starlight. Can’t remember if I could see my hands or what, but there is definitely far far more light than in a cave
