There's plenty of people and businesses in PA who don't speak English. I've met people's grandparents who only speak eastern European languages like Czech and polish, third and fourth generation Mexican families who always speak Spanish to each other, Puerto Rican restaurants who only have menus in Spanish, Italian neighborhoods with a ton of Italian speakers, and so on.

Bonus points: I've never lived in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh with huge immigrant communities, all the examples I cited are in cities under 75k in PA

Fwiw, in my neck of the woods, it isn't uncommon for people to commute from the Wyoming Valley, Lehigh Valley, or the Poconos to NYC on a daily basis. It's about 2 and a half hours on Martz or Trans-Bridge coach buses. Last time I checked, a commuter pass for Martz was $800.

I think, for less than a year, commuting to Harrisburg on Amtrak is manageable. Delays are less common and the Keystone is really comfortable compared to a coach bus. Being cheaper than Martz is a plus, too. Anything more than a year or two might be excessive.

I recommend doing what another commentor said and try the commute before you take the job.

Thank you for saying this. I'm surprised at the amount of people in this thread, who are apparently from Pennsylvania, that are just dunking on Wilkes-Barre and Luzerne County. The local government being corrupt is not the people's fault, rather it's a product of decades of institutional rot.

I would love for these people to come up here and look around? Visit and see that NEPA is a part of Pennsylvania? I think it's very telling that despite having 550k+ people between Lackawanna and Luzerne County, most people in this thread only recognize WB based on Kids for Cash. Maybe doing something and helping improve the quality of life and reduce corruption in counties like Luzerne would be more helpful than calling everyone there losers.
