Just make sure you pin it to the ground. A gust of wind hitting that the wrong way would flip it over quickly.

How about using the working opener until it no longer works? Why trash a working opener? Because some guy said it won't be warranteed? Who cares?

I don't imagine anyone is getting any warranty work done by garage door opener companies.

Why? The one she has is working.

Make sure you cut the insulation about 1/4" short on all sides. That will leave a nice gap to fit the spray foam in.

Use rigid foam insulation. It comes in 4x8 sheets. It will perform way better than any batt.

That board that you are seeing is likely just a 1x6 that was placed over the rough framing which should be a 2x.
In this case my guess is that you have 2 1/4" of solid material all the way around that opening. Good luck.

How do you KNOW that the wood around the opening is a 1x6?

Find a sketchy drywall guy who works for cash and watch and learn. They can get it done fast. The meth heads are very productive in the first three hours or so.
