I’ve yet to read Doctor Sleep (on my TBR, finally got around to The Shining last month) but I’m currently reading Salems Lot.

He has an entire chapter ranting about the town and how it’s an evil entity that traps the souls of the inhabitants because they know every nook & cranny, every person and every thing about that person, all of the events, and so on. It’s so absurdly sinister and drones on for pages, I found it absolutely brilliant. It really captured my feelings as someone who was raised in a town of less than 10k and now lives in a large city.

How are you enjoying Doctor Sleep so far compared to The Shining?

I still love fiction, but I can’t read fantasy like I use to. Entire world-building is just too much for my mind to grasp. Historical-fiction and dystopian are definitely my go-tos these days.

I do find myself picking up more non-fiction compared to when I was a kid though as well. Mostly stuff on climate change, nature, historical stuff & some political memoirs.

I recently picked up the Complete World War II: The Coverage of the Entire Conflict by the NYT. It’s all clippings ranging between the 1920s-1940s covering all of WWII.

It’s really fascinating being able to experience those stories through an present-day experience.

I’m also an avid news consumer, as well as a Veteran so I may be in the minority for enjoying a book like this. It’s made a great display and I’ve gone through quite a bit of it so far in the past week.
