Yeah get a good 20 watt or higher USB-C PD charger and it should get up to 80% fast. After 80% it doesn't matter because the speed slowed way down to prevent battery damage an wear. The 30W chargers might even get you to 22 or 23 watts max charging rate briefly if you want to push the limits but really 20W is almost just as good. You might want 9V volt 3Amp support (27 watt) to get there. The Anker nano 30W should this but really any problem will.

If you get a cable like this, it has a built in power meter. Very handy for knowing the performance you're getting.

No. You aren't hacked or scammed. Some people buy SIM cards in the target country, activate them, then sell them in the US for sale. It's because it's probably difficult or impossible for you to do it yourself in that country. It's pretty common, actually. They make money by buying it cheap and selling to you for more. You're safe as long as you have control over the phone number which cb you do.

It's a short cord so unlike a 4-6 foot lightning cable it might be challenging to charge while using it. It also doesn't charge as fast as lighting. I actually rarely use them became I don't find them to be more convenient but the are nice to use sometimes.

My only other suggestion is to go into keyboard > keyboards > and see what keyboards are selected. I disabled "Apple keyboard" which vastly reduced bad autocorrect and only have oxford keyboard and oxford thesaurus selected. I don't recall seeing contacts in keyboard suggestions so maybe it's app dependent or I just have something set differently?

Assuming you get $1000 trade in for this broken phone, that's a good deal versus $100-$200 out of pocket for repair on a phone that probably is going to also need a new battery in the next year.

The trade in will cost you $100 in taxes and probably an activation fee, but you'll get a new phone.

The trade in credit will be given to you over 24 months. If you upgrade after 50% is paid off, you lose 12 of those trade-in credits so you'll only be getting $500 for this phone. That being said, it's still fine to do as long as you're planning for it. Basically trading int he $14 Pro in 1 year you'll effectively get 50% trade in value toward the 15 and start payments again.

As for avoiding the 2024 model (16?), that's my pure speculation. With the iPhone XS they switched to an Intel modem and people apparently had issues with that so I just avoided that model. Of course people have had problems with the 14 Pro too (apparently should be fixed by now) so maybe it's just every iPhone but my brother has an XS, complains a lot, and I think that model just isn't good. Apple's modem could be great but Qualcomm has been doing this for a long time, has a good track record, and Apple is apparently having problems with their modem which is why they won't be putting it in the 2023 (15?) model as they had initially planned. They're going with Qualcomm again. I don't really know, but I'm reluctant to be the one of the first with a phone with an apple modem. Then again maybe Apple has some super great feature that you'll want.

I'd probably upgrade to the 14 Pro if I were you. I can see it difficult to spend money fixing an old phone when the same out of pocket will get you the new one.

It kind of depends if you're interested in the iPhone 15 or 16 which will likely have USB-C as well if that's something that you remotely care about. $100-$200 isn't bad and IMO the 14 isn't a huge upgrade from the 12 Pro except the battery life is better and so it the thermal management. 14 Pro runs really cool while I recall the 12 Pro got pretty hot, especially using 5GUW on Verizon.

Apple will supposedly use the Qualcomm Modem on the 15, looking to use their own in-house designed one on the 16 and later. This suggests to me that thew 15 might be my last upgrade for a few years with the assumption that adopting their first gen modem might not be the best idea? Then again there's no reason you can't buy a 15 after the 16 and 17 come out in the future out (assuming you can find one.)

The 14 Pro is great, no argument there. Just that $1000 trade in means a 3 year carrier commitment for you so you have to work that in to the plan.

Yup, it's the EZiest and such good quality. I won't get any other anymore. My friends and family would always have me re-do their screen protectors after their botched attempts. Now I just tell them to use Spigen EZ Glass and they do it themselves.

I used to order like 4 screen protectors in case I messed up a few.

Oh I see. Yeah that's the legit iOS calendar. I have US Holidays, Birthdays, and Siri Suggestions under "Other."

I actually sync with Google Calendars (multiple) and don't even use iOS or iCloud calendars and of course Google has their own.

I do have one and it's in a separate section called "subscribed."

No, but you can send with slam, loud, gentle, or invisible ink. Or fill the screen with effects. My personal favorite is lasers.

Wait, US Holidays is the subscription? That's a default that just comes with iOS based on your region. You don't subscribe/unsubscribe from that as an account or subscription. I just hide that. Honestly never thought to try to unsubscribe, personally. When you open the calendar, tap calendars at the bottom, scroll down, and you can just uncheck that to stop showing it.

https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-the-holidays-calendar-iph80d93ac49/

Change your primary holiday calendar to a different region

  1. Go to Settings šŸ“·Ā > GeneralĀ > LanguageĀ &Ā Region, then tap Region.
  2. Tap a region, then tap Change to [region].
  3. In Calendar, tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Deselect the Holidays calendar, then select it again.

Note: To subscribe to a holiday calendar from a different region, see Set up multiple calendars on iPhone.

So go to settings>Calendar and look at subscribed calendars. It may have subscribed you to a calendar via a URL with an .ics at the end of the link. That should be harmless and this is something that can be done from a web browser (usually intentionally.)

It SHOULD be harmless. I mean who knows if someone found a zero day vulnerability that can be deliver via calendar subscriptions but I doubt it.

I used the shortcuts app to crate an automation that would undo all of the things my dad did by accident. Turn of airplane mode odd, wi-fi back on, DND off, turn up volume (unfortunately you can only do media volume, not ringer,) turn up brightness, etc. He tended to over enlarge text so it would reset that. I set it to run twice a day and when he commented the charger. As for the silent switch go into her contacts and find your contact. Edit your contact ringtone and text tone (both) and toggle on "emergency bypass." Now no matter what she does to her phone, you can call her and it will ring.

Another thing you can do is set a schedule for DND to turn on and off for 1 min at different times of day and that might leave it toggled off. I'm not sure if it will just return to previous setting, though.

Here's an example of what I did on his phone. https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/bd2142db442045308031bbf03f311690

And he would mess up his phone with accessibility settings so I would run this once a day on automation. https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/f6d5ff3d039841b2b394cea7acd1268e

It appears you can drag down as well. I just figured out that when I have a two live activities sharing the island like in my photo above, you can hide either of them by dragging down. You can also swap them. I haven't figured out the gestures to hide, i hide, and swap, exactly. I've been playing with it and I can get it to work but not exactly sure what combination of gestures does what LOL. I need a guide.

Sports Alerts https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sports-alerts/id432450349 (see "what's new" in the app listing.)

It's a new feature using the "Live Activities"

I got the app a few years ago so I could have games in an Apple Watch complication. But the new live activities to follow games is pretty cool.

More on live activities https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/enable-live-activities-ios/ and https://www.macrumors.com/2022/10/24/live-activities-dynamic-island-apps/

I think Flighty using live activities will come in handy too.
