Those are just the lucky ones. Some people can take a hit without getting addicted, but I'm pretty sure after a second or even third, anyone would become addicted. And many people get hooked after just one.

Also some drugs are extremely addictive chemically and have far worse effects, so it's not worth ever doing them.

I though S1 was wonderful. The art was good, the voice work was really good in the dub, the story itself was exciting, the characters were pretty complex, etc.

I really like how it was split into shorter 4-episode arcs as well. S2 is still really good and has a lot of those same aspects, but iirc it is one longer story and things start to get a little more... implausible, at times with the heist-type stuff.

I actually really really liked Great Pretender, much more so than Super Crooks. Season 2 might even gotten a little wacky, but it was still very good, and Season 1 was outstanding imo. Definitely takes some Cowboy Bebop inspiration, but not too much I would say.
