If he wasn't the one who ended the world, then he may have gotten the name because he has an alliance with the people of power due to watching their children, and can cause problems for anyone that causes problems for him.

If the message is in his DNA, that means he disappeared before he was born and he would have no memories of him. The letter would have to be written before conception for that to be possible. And if he was missing before conception, the narrator would not exist.
