I thought termites eat wood, not paper.
Luckily, were I live there is hardly any dangers for books: no molds because of low humidity levels, no paper eating insects... Just avoiding direct sunlight and small kids sticky hands is enough ;)

I rarely buy new books but if I do I'm the kind of buyer that analyze a dozen of the available copies on the bookstore before selecting the one that looks pristine... Only to find some small dent when i arrive home.
Instead, I have no problems with second hand books having issues is the price is right.

Obviously if the book uses complex words and you are not reading on your native language you will read slower than if it's a simpler book on the language you was born into. It kind of baffles me that you wonder if it's normal or not...

I enjoyed it but it certainly was a little too long. The fantastic parts were my least favourite. The cold, the hunger, the men... were scarier than the monster. Probably i would have liked it better as a purely historical book.
There is a really excellent TV series based on the book by the way.

It's beautifully excessive book.

Reply to Generally, drug addicts are usually seen as bad. My question is, are book addicts usually seen as good? by Delicious_Maize9656
Being cultured and well read is usually seen as a good thing.
Being a book addict (not sure what this really means to you) it's not positive at all, as having an addiction implies it controls your life at least to a certain point.
You can't stop reading even when you should be doing other things? You can't stop buying books even when your house looks like a second hand bookstore warehouse? I don't think its positive at all...
