I have the 6XX’s( not the 650’s ) and the Edition XS’s and yes 2 completely different headphones. The big problem I have with a comparison is their difference in amplification requirements. I for one believe if you have not heard a 650/6XX from a Bottlehead Crack you have really not heard them. I have several amps but for me only a few that I think are good with the 6XX’s .
First is the Drop Cavalli Tube Hybrid. It is not a matter of power just that it meshes with it more than say a Magni or Atom.
The Next is a iFi Zen Can Signature 6XX just Awesome the iFi team hit it out of the park with this amp. The EQ and XSpace are done so nicely without being overbearing.
The Bottlehead Crack is the best I’ve heard the 650/6XX’s without a doubt. Some of the best mids ever. I do have a affinity for a Tung Sol 5998 as the power tube.

I agree with u/No-Context5479 it is a matter of sound presentation that you prefer. I tend to prefer the headphone presentation myself but have heard many of the TOTL IEM’s and many are really fantastic but still gravitate towards headphone’s.

That is just crazy. I have the HE-400,HE-400S,HE-500,HE-5XX,Sundara,Edition XS and HE-6se V2 and other than some bad cables have had no problems the 400 400S and 500’s are like 7 and 8 years old.
That is some serious bad luck.

Just tried the 6XX’s from my Magni 3 from a Modi 3 and I could not listen to it turned all the way up as it was starting to be painful. Though not the most accurate way of testing I have a calibrated mic hooked up to a old iPhone and with a little Blues Travellers I got 111 db with the mic parallel with the pads and my hand over top like I said probably not real accurate but I doubt too far off.
If you are listening that loud that will become a problem for your hearing.
The problem could be the Go Xlr not putting out enough voltage for the line out this will definitely not play as loud as it could. Did the same test with a Dragonfly Red and it gave me 99 db and it was louder than I tend to listen too but it was not painful and it puts out 2.1v which is spot on for standard line out and using it as a dac for the Magni was close to the same as the Modi as a dac.

I tend to try and keep all my original packaging as I have the space for it but as another poster mentioned inexpensive hard shell cases can be had for $10 to $20 that will fit most headphone’s as I have a Slappa case I use for my HE6’s and even the bulkier ZMF Atrium’s will fit but I’ll use the Seahorse case it came in.
