A family fave for sure. Even the lines that weren't the main jokes we would laugh at and still quote to this day ("Number one customer," "Nestled safely under the tree...").
Love that Schwarzenegger fully commits to the wacky role. Sinbad and Hartman are funny in everything. We also would crack up at another movie they did together, Houseguest.

The movie is about Tom growing up.
He built up a whole romantic fantasy that wasn't real. Summer genuinely likes Tom, that's why she's nice to him, even at the end. But she makes it crystal clear that she did not want a serious relationship with him. He chooses to ignore that. He thinks they are 1 record away from being a perfect match.
Summer is the best thing that ever happened to Tom. He learned that he needs to feel satisfaction and pride in himself instead of trying to find it in a woman. Then he's emotionally mature enough when he does meet a perfect match.

Originally she had a bigger storyline. She thought Steve Martin was having an affair and that John Candy was not an obnoxious oaf, but was the other woman.
Her look at the end is so emotional because she realizes Del is a real person.
The original was too long though, so it was cut to focus on the Martin & Candy.
