The event occurred but the depiction is likely wrong. Someone somewhere else heard the story and assumed slaves pulled down the statue. Likely they didn't.
As well the built environment is not accurate.

I don't know art or technique but something about the perspective just pulls you into the image. I could look at this for a long time. Really wonderful, very nice.

Real estate. Basements are too valuable to use the space for heaters and boilers. Buildings are supplied heat by century plus old cast iron pipes that leak all the time. Eventually the whole system will be replaced and it will be a part of city lore.
