Against my better judgement, I googled “Eric Adams 920k” and absolutely nothing comes up except this post. People out here upvoting this dumbass just making stuff up because Eric Adams sucks.

Closest thing I could find was Gotham Gazette talking about that number being what he was eligible for in public matching funds for his campaign, which has nothing to do with what you said.

Eh, lots of waste and grift within the MTA but in this incident specifically it doesn’t seem to be the case. Appears that Siemens is owning the incorrectly sized part order and meeting with the MTA daily, kinda just seems like one of those projects that has such a big scope and so much legacy equipment that has almost certainly been repaired and replaced at different intervals over the years that overruns are just part of the game.

Yeah, this article seems less like lamenting COVID’s impact on the hospitality industry and more a case study in why bar and restaurant experience does not inherently mean you’re ready to own your own business. In the article the guy details how they opened in a space next to a church so they couldn’t sell liquor and had to get a second space to make cocktails (probably should have figured that out before leasing the first space…), appears to admit to using illegal labor (employee moved back to Mexico because they couldn’t get them hours, they would have been on PUA if legal and probably made more than they did at the bar) and regularly not paying bills. They make it sound like the government left them high and dry until admitting they got forgiven PPP loans to pay their staff the whole time. It was a hectic time and caused a ton of suffering for everyone but at least the city tried ideas (such as the outdoor dining, togo drinks that the author is complaining about) to keep you in business while offering unprecedented unemployment supplements and forgivable loans.

This just doesn’t seem like a viable business even if it is somebody’s favorite bar.

For what it’s worth, I’m not necessarily on their side and in general I support all additions to our housing stock but this isn’t as cut and dry as “we hate skyscrapers and this blocks my view” - the location is an EPA Brownfields site that has not been fully remediated and surrounding schools have to keep all windows sealed to avoid toxic mercury exposure. There also appears to be some degree of credibility to the quid pro quo claim given the developer tossed $40mm at a city project nearby. Seems like the courts were where this was headed one way or another.
