maybe slide it to one side make a 3 inch bookshelf with a toothbrush holder and other bathroom organizer stuff on it

think aqua coat is what you want. never used it myself but believe youtube channel paint life tv did a video on it a few years ago they have several cabinet painting videos that are quite informative.

I had just started pantheon and was on episode 4 when it disappeared :( They could have at least warned it was going away.
