Yes. Robotic mining is the way forward, whether it's earthbound or otherwise. The first company to make asteroid mining commercially viable will rewrite the planet's economies.

I’d be happy with ground based laser hubs that could knock out missiles and warheads. All those hours playing Missile Command might finally pay off… though automated targeting might be better.

Diplomacy is a great game and although the AI's performance wasn't phenomenal, that level of competence is probably only one or two updates away. I'm not sure we should be training AIs to manipulate us, but I guess it's inevitable.
